Buy with Confidence

It is always difficult when making a purchase on the internet to know that you are buying from a reputable company as you cannot see the "whites of the sellers eyes" so to speak.  Unfortunately it is very easy to put together a reasonable looking website and make all sorts of claims about being the biggest and the best, so how can you buy with confidence?

Our guide to some well known confidence tricks and just some common sense advice will hopefully give you a better shopping experience:

Contact Details

We make no apologies for stating this one again always make sure there are proper contact details on the website INCLUDING a full postal address (not PO Box) and a landline (not mobile) telephone number.  These are requirements by UK law and if they are missing, you should proceed at risk.  Email addresses and contact us forms are not sufficient protection, if you do not receive your goods or they are faulty you must have an address to send them back too.  Any website offering a contact form only for returns and emailing you an address is acting outside of the Distance Selling Regulations.

The Biggest and the Best Claims

Be wary about claims to be "the biggest" in the trade or "10, 20 or even 30 years experience" - this is very easy to detect using something called the way back machine - this is a really easy to use (and fun!) website - all you do is type in the web address of the website you want to look up and it will give you a number of links going back over the years so you can see how a website looked "way back".  If a site doesn't come up more than once or twice (if at all) then maybe it is a lot newer than it claims to be.

Awards and Accolades

Make sure any claims to be secure you can click on - so for example, if a website claims to be "Best of Web" then it should click through to that listing, likewise if it claims to be "McAffee Secure" then again the logo should click through to the McAffee certificate.  Without these click throughs then all you have is a web graphic that is aimed at gaining your trust but without them actually being listed.

Customer Testimonials

A well known scam is customer testimonials - anybody can make these up and add them to a site, whilst we have them on our site, we know that this is an area that is open to systematic abuse.  By all means read them but do not take it as gospel that it hasn't been written by the website owner in order to gain your trust.  Ours haven't - we are happy to send on the originals to you by request (but with permission of the customer first).  A better way to see what people think of a company is to google that company and read testimonials left on forums and blogs - that is a completely independent testimonial and would give you a far better idea.  Yes there may be an odd bad review but take a balanced view - are there more good reviews than bad and if so there you have your answer!!

ICE Gems from IdentifyMe Limited - Can you really trust us?

So how can you trust us?  Well, this is always tough when you sell on the internet so we suggest you check us out by:-

  • Searching for us on the way back machine.
  • Search for us on the Companies House website under our Limited company name - IdentifyMe Limited
  • Telephone us, ask us questions - it becomes very obvious when you speak to us that we have a wealth of experience in the medial ID marketplace.
  • Google us!  You can see for yourself all the recommendations we have had on various forums and in people's blogs.

Finally we want to make it known that the only place you will ever see our phone numbers 0845 125 9539 or 0161 870 6044 are on the ICE Gems, 5teel and Tyvek Wristbands.co.uk websites.  If you see our phone number anywhere else then be warned it is not us!  Unfortunately it has been brought to our attention several times recently that another website is using our contact details, we are working closely with our solicitors to make sure that this gets taken down but in the meantime, we want to stress again - our contact details are only on our websites.

Finally - a little bit of advice - if it looks too good to be true - it usually is!

Take care!
